As you may have noticed on my Project Strength page, I started taking classes at a new yoga studio!

They offer a great deal to new students: $20 for 14 days of unlimited classes! My goal is to go to at least 9 classes before my 14 days are up!
So far, I’ve attended three classes:
- Friday: Inner Fire Flow: A mix between Bikram yoga and Power Flow yoga. One hour long. I left this class feeling refreshed, strong, and flexible!
- Saturday: Hot Yoga: Ninety minutes of Bikram hot yoga. I left this class feeling exhausted and shaky. I think this can be partially attributed to the fact that I was a) standing right under one of the heaters for the first half of the class and b) according to everyone else, it was significantly hotter in there than usual.
- Monday(today!): Power Flow: A one-hour class of Vinyasa/Power Flow yoga. I left this class feeling refreshed, awake (it started at 6 am!), and ready to go for the day!
I love the flow classes. I think my issue with the hot yoga class is that you hold each pose a lot longer than you do in power flow. At that point, my mind starts to wander and I get out of the “yoga state of mind.” During flow, I feel graceful (even if I’m doing modified versions of the poses) and strong. Maybe I will eventually get to the point where I enjoy more static classes like Bikram more, but as a beginner, I feel much more in-tune with myself during the flow classes.
Did I mention the fact that the power flow classes are also in a heated room? Bonus for the Wisconsin December!
I’ll report back at the end of my “14 Days of Yoga” with more about my experiences.
I have some work that must be done by noon, so check back later for Part 3 of my Wheat Flour series!
In the meantime, isn’t this video absolutely adorable?

awesome video!
Many yoga classes are out there, and you may be turned off if you pick one that does not suit your personality and state of physical fitness. For most beginners, a hatha or vinyasa class will be most appropriate, depending on whether you want a slow or fast-paced class. These are basic styles, and you can always try something fancier later.
