While I’m on my honeymoon in Italy, I have lined up some great guest posts for you.  For the next week and a half, I will be posting 1 or 2 “Savvy Spotlights” a day, highlighting some of my readers and blog friends.  You may see another fun post or two mixed in there as well. :)

I’ll start recapping our Italy trip when I return.  Have a great week!

Q. Introduce yourself!

I’m Katy Widrick, of http://KatyWidrick.com. Until the spring of 2010, I blogged at SillyTaterTot.com, which is a nickname, but I figured it was time to grow up a little. Only a little, though…I’m still that same goofy Tater Tot!

Q. Savvy Eats approaches the concept of healthy living from the standpoint of “Smart Food, Smart Fitness, & Smart Life.” What does ‘savvy living’ mean to you?

I love the word savvy – it sums up sexy, smart, fun, ambitious, health-conscious and kind, all in one word.

To me, savvy living means making good decisions, whether it’s what you eat, how you exercise, what you spend, how you connect or what goals you put out in the universe.

Smart Food Q. What is your go-to meal?

If I’m cooking for me and my husband, it’s a delicious stir fry, with brown rice, sesame oil, bok choy and tofu. Yum!

But when the man’s away, my taste buds play – I break out my favorite foods that he doesn’t eat, and cram them all into one bowl. Roasted sweet potatoes, frozen peas and seitan, with a dessert of dates and almond butter. And some kombucha on the side!

Smart Fitness Q.  How do you get yourself motivated for a hard workout?

I try and schedule morning workouts when I can, because I find it’s easier to roll out of bed and into my sneakers before my mind really wakes up. Sometimes, half the battle of afternoon workouts is getting the motivation to put my workout clothes on!

I just remind myself that I’ve NEVER regretted a workout – but I’ve often wished I had gone to the gym or on a run. And I remember how great it feels to look at my sweaty, stinky self after crossing the finish line or making it through a rough session.

Smart Life Q. How did you discover the healthy living blogging community?

I started blogging in 2007 as a way to get some of my thoughts on “paper” – I figured my family might read the posts, and it would be a good way to keep up on traveling and vacations.

And when I started losing weight, I needed inspiration to stay on the healthy living trail – so I searched for people that were blogging tips. I found the Eat Like Me blog on Self, which led me to others, and down the rabbit hole I went!

Going to events like Healthy Living Summit and Fitbloggin’ really secured my love for healthy living blogging.

Q. Anything else you’d like to share about yourself, your blog, etc?

I’m passionate about fitness for people of all shapes and sizes, and I’d love to see more people give triathlon a shot. The sport changed my life! I’m also a recent vegetarian (mostly vegan) who is CONSUMED by food politics and health news. I love sharing new finds and getting them in return. I’m into social media and I’m a Twitter-holic (@kwidrick), which is why I helped launch the popular health and fitness chat #Fitblog.
