Cheating + Too Much Too Fast

Thanks for all your great feedback on the mini blog makeoverand new tagline! I think that most of my posts are going to have a “Smart Food” and “Smart Fitness” section from now on…what do you think?

Smart Food

I have a confession to make. I have been cheating on my beloved Breakfast Quinoa. I typically try to mix up my breakfasts, but quinoa is my favorite and I actually haven’t had it in over a month! No worries, though, I’ll be back at it next week.

What has my most common breakfast been over the last few weeks?

No-Heat Oatmeal!

No Cook Oatmeal

To make it, I simply mix together

  • 1/2 c. oats
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 1 serving Greek yogurt
  • 1 sliced banana
  • 1 T. flax seed
  • 1 T. chia seeds

Let it sit for about a half hour while you get ready for the day, then add some fun toppings, like

Nom!

No Cook Oatmeal

This one is topped with Justin’s Maple Almond Butter. This stuff is heavenly.

Smart Fitness

After yesterday’s fantastic bike ride, I was itching to get out again today. It was nice and summery out, and it felt so good to get some awesome cardio in.

But, my IT band is feeling a bit tight, and I don’t want to do too much too fast and risk injuring it again. This is the first week I’ve been able to do serious workouts again, and since we’re planning on biking tomorrow as well, I don’t want to push it.

So I decided to look at the “big picture” instead. I want to be able to ride consistently for the next few months injury-free, so that I can train for a charity ride in July and our honeymoon in the fall. Would I rather bike today and risk hurting myself, or put the ride off and take care of myself?

Obviously, I chose to put today’s ride off, and we’re going to try to go tomorrow.

In the meantime, I am doing some Tiger Tailing (hello, travel “foam roller!”) and stretching to ease the tension. And I walked to all of my errands… it let me get in some movement and sunshine, and is more green!

Smart Life

I will be on blogging hiatus for the rest of the weekend. I only have two days left with Dan, and want to make the most of our time together. Have a great weekend, and I’ll see you Monday!

    I’ve been in love with no-cook oats lately, so good! I was wondering about lugging my giant foam roller for the century, but that travel foam roller is genius!! have a great weekend :)

      I’ve been traveling for most of the past month, and it is so much nicer to pack the Tiger Tail than the foam roller!

    Have a great weekend off! Your no cook oats look delish – I’ve only tried then with milk, not yogurt or chia seeds, I think that would help make them a lot more filling.

      Thank you! I’ll keep an eye out…it has been far too long since we had a Madison meet-up, and I will be moving in 8 weeks, so we have to get some more in!
