The Chops and Hops event we attended two weekends ago was basically a local food-lover’s dream.
Of course, then I forgot to review it and share the fun with you! Better late than never, right?
Date: February 13, 2011
Location: Ithaca Beer Co. Tasting Room
The Event: Five local food companies provided samples of their products, paired with a sample of Ithaca Beer. Lots of fun!
The Companies:
The Piggery. We’ve been buying a lot of our meat from the PIggery ever since they opened a deli in November. I love that they raise heirloom breeds and feed them on pasture and GMO-free grains. Plus, the owners are just so friendly! (Side note: I currently have some of their smoked hocks cooking away in our crockpot for pulled pork. The apartment smells delectable!)

Fingerlakes Farmstead Cheese. We loved their raw milk Schuyler (which is like a Gouda) so much, we brought some home! Mmmm.

Cayuga Pure Organics sampled some unique bean dips. They weren’t my favorite, but I love the goals of the company!
Purity Ice Cream. Hands-down, the best ice cream we’ve had in Ithaca thus far. We make regular visits during the summer… and even occasionally go in the winter! They offered a beer float (like a root beer float) and espresso beer cupcakes. Both delicious!

Life’s So Sweet Chocolates. I’d never heard of the company before the event, so I’m especially glad they were there. Their truffles melted in my mouth, and I’d definitely get some again!

And of course, Ithaca Beer. Each food sample was paired with a different beer from the brewery. It was fun to try some new flavors without having to buy a whole bottle!
Have you been to any fun local food events lately?

my mouth is literally watering thinking about pulled pork at your apartment. did you know that pulled pork is one of my all time favorite foods. like – top 5 – maybe even top 3. Maybe even top 2….
this is why i plan on making this for my birthday: http://healthy-delicious.com/2010/10/pulled-pork-macaroni-cheese/
ummmm- YES!
the best food I EVER MADE, EVER was probably this amazing spice rubbed slow cooked pulled pork from Katie Lee (back when she was still Katie Lee Joel) – I’m pretty sure it’s from the “The Comfort Table” cookbook (one of my favorites)
It was SO GOOD. Like, so so so GOOD.
as a matter of fact – i think i’ll blog about it.
yum
Hubby loves loves loves pulled pork. Not only am I drooling over all of the yummies you got to sample, but at the recipe Heather shared here in the comments.

I (unsurprisingly) just checked the website for Life’s So Sweet Chocolates – their key lime cups look awesome. Sounds like this was a lot of fun – almost as fun as the monthly chocolate tastings that a local shop in DC conducts

What a fun foodie event! I love floats – and ice cream in general, so I would have been all over that from Purity!
Oh Purity Ice Cream. Do you know if they still have Eat Dessert First in Collegetown? That used to be my “treat” spot, LOL. They have this cookie or brownie sundae with Purity Ice cream and hot fudge and everything…yeah that’s where my “freshman 15″ came from but I was OK with it. And I know I’ve talked to you about the apple crisp ice cream. Man…I miss Ithaca SO much! Time to make a trip out there (well, maybe in a couple of years)
