Freezing Out a Goal

Time to cross another one off the list: get a chest freezer and freeze summer vegetables and fruits.

We’d been pricing chest freezers for a few weeks, hesitant to take the plunge and considering holding off until next summer to buy one.

Until, that is, Dan suggested we check out Craigslist, where we managed to find a nearly-new freezer at nearly 50% off the store price, being sold less than 2 blocks away from our house.

So now we have a chest freezer, and I’ve been slowly adding to our stock of frozen produce for winter. We currently have:

So far, our freezer is only about 1/3 full. I need to step up my vegetable freezing!

Have you crossed any goals off your list recently?

I used to love that my parents had an extra freezer in the basement growing up. Stocked will all kinds of goodies – cookies, homemade maple (from maple trees in our back yard) and fruit syrups. Excited for your new freezer!

From personal experience, I can forewarn you. Keep track of everything you put in it. It is easy to forget what is down at the bottom and then, one day, you see all that you wish you had eaten months – or even years – before!

I have an inventory of everything I canned… maybe I should make one for the freezer too!

Ooooh! Great idea! I’ve been wanting to get a chest freezer, too, & will definitely keep that tip in mind :)

Hi, Julie! I LOVE my new chest freezer! My husband and I recently purchased one to store extra things like frozen veggies & fruits, make-ahead meals, etc. It’s so funny to think that I actually got along without one all this time! I love your idea for slow-roasted tomatoes…I might have to try that one! Have fun with your new freezer! :)

My wife and I bought a chest freezer in the past month or so, too, and have been stocking up on lots of frozen veggies and fruit. I have nearly 60 cups of shredded zucchini waiting to be baked.
