Graduation Day

I’ve been “unplugged” for much of the past 2 days, and I think that was exactly the break I needed!

Thank you for all your kind words and support re: my elimination diet. Upon further reflection, I realized that cutting out all those foods and adding them back in suddenly at our rehearsal dinner could be a very bad idea…I would really rather not be sick on my wedding day! Additionally, the last 6 months have been especially stressful, and some of my symptoms could be stress-related. So, I will be eating normally for the next 2 weeks and if my symptoms stick around (ie: are therefore not caused by stress), I will start the elimination diet after the wedding.

Saturday was my graduation day. Instead of going to the ceremony, where I’d know about 3 of the thousands of graduates (we were the only engineering major that didn’t get to graduate with the rest of the engineers), I decided to come spend some time at home. We celebrated it up!

My dad and I cycled out to St Boni Bistro.

I love their food philosophy!

I ordered the beef gyro with fresh fruit on the side. It was perfectly cooked, and wasn’t overly greasy. Love.

Isn’t the strawberry so pretty?

After our bike ride (and quick outfit change), we made our way to Tea Source.

They had walls upon walls of tea and tea accessories, and the staff was super-knowledgeable. I came home with a Green Tea Melange and Strawberries & Cream tea.

We picked up ingredients for a special dinner at Whole Foods to celebrate.

Fresh pasta (made in Madison!), with

  • roasted vegetables
  • rotisserie chicken
  • tomato basil sauce
  • Parmesan
  • Garlic Gold nuggets (which were a big hit and will be in my shop soon!)

And a beautiful, delicious carrot cupcake, shared with my mom. We ended the night with a viewing of Iron Man 2, and stayed all the way through the credits to see my Uncle Tom’s name as the NY Unit Production Manager!

It was a fabulous family-filled day, and the perfect way to celebrate my graduation from college!

As I train for Italy, it is more important for me to be able to do rides on back-to-back days than really long rides. This weekend, I started my serious training!

Saturday: 26.73 miles in 2:02 with dad

Sunday: 24.17 miles in 1:52 with dad.

Phew! Definitely taking a day off from cycling today!

Today’s Push-Ups Challenge Tip:

Sometimes I have a hard time getting myself started on my push-ups, because all of the sets can take a long time. So I break it up into mini workouts. Whenever I need a break from work or have a few free minutes, I’ll drop and do a few sets. Makes the workout seem much shorter!

Dan and I are getting married exactly 2 weeks from yesterday. Yay!

See you all later today for Day 1 of Tea Week!
