Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down…Center Ithaca?
Why yes, that would be Santa and two of his elves rappelling down the side of Center Ithaca on the Commons.
On Saturday, Santa arrived in Ithaca! Or he did once his special SWAT team (aka Ithaca police) cut his beard free from the rappelling device. Apparently Santa’s beard was a little too long for this escapade this year. Oops.

Santa, his elves and the holiday carols got us in the festive mood, so I made us some gingerbread pancakes for lunch, then Dan pulled out the tree and ornaments while I made some spiked hot chocolate and turned on the Christmas tunes.

Tree is up and decorated! Did you realize why Santa was having trouble–hope it didn’t scare any little kids!
Not until he was “rescued.” Before that, everyone was singing “here comes santa claus” and “jingle bells” and they were saying santa was “afraid of heights”…he was still waving to the crowd and stuff though
yay! i’m loving seeing everyone’s christmas trees on their blogs! yours is beautiful, as i would expect!

aww, thank you!
My boyfriend and I got our first Christmas tree together and decorated it this weekend! It is a tiny tree but I really love it.
Your tree is so pretty! And I love the wooden snowman ornament. We went with a red and gold theme. Simple balls and poinsettias. No special ornaments yet this year.

Thanks — my grandpa actually makes us a wooden ornament (like the snowman one) every year to go with our gifts!
I’m a journalist and lived in Ithaca for a while and actually covered this event a few years ago — definitely the most creative Santa event I’ve seen! Most of the kids weren’t scared but there were a few that weren’t really sure Santa was going to make it … Love Ithaca and your blog. Hope you’re enjoying!
Luckily, none of them seemed to realize that he was stuck because of the beard and just kept singing carols!
