As you may have seen on Facebook or Twitter, I’ve been debating the future of Savvy Eats.
(Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere!!)
You see, I have a lot of craft, furniture and home decorating ideas that I’d love to share with all of you. So here’s my dilemma:
Do I start a new blog for Savvy Home posts, or just add a Savvy Home page to Savvy Eats?
Here are the options I’ve come up with, but I don’t know where to go from here:
1. Add a “Savvy Home” category and page to Savvy Eats, and put it in the menu bar with Smart Food, Smart Fitness, etc. Savvy Home posts will show up on the front page.
2. Same as #1, but don’t have the Savvy Home posts show up on the front page (they will still show up in the RSS feed and “Recent posts” section). For an example of how this would work, refer to the Reader Contributions page for the Little Things.
3. Start a second blog entitled “Savvy Home” or “Savvy Living.”
4. Add Savvy Home to Savvy Eats, but offer subscription options: just Savvy Eats, just Savvy Home, or everything.
5. Rebrand and rename the blog to “Savvy Living” (this was a Facebook fan suggestion) and put everything there.
As my Savvy Readers, what would you prefer to see on the site going forward?
(note to those viewing through a feed reader: there is a poll embedded below!)

Lots of fantastic options
I’m so excited for the future of your blog!

I voted! I like the last option. The variety of food/home reminds me of Kevin & Amanda… I love it!

That’s an awesome blog to be compared to!
If you rebranded the blog as Savvy Living, you could set up different RSS feeds for the different categories.
Kudos to you for opening this up to everyone!

That’s a good idea, kind of like the Pioneer Woman has her site set up?
Not that mine is anywhere NEAR the size of her’s, though!
Ha – is anyone’s?!
But yeah! I had her in mind when I said that. I love how easy it is to navigate her site.

I vote for the last option- you shouldn’t feel constrained by the title of your blog! This way you can write whatever strikes your fancy

Well I already do that.
I think the main problem right now is that I’m kind of attached to the name Savvy Eats, even though I know “Savvy living” would let me write about more topics…
haha good point. I think that so long as you stick to savvy ___, it will have the same ring to it. Savvy Eats is a great name but I think Savvy Living or something like that would grow on you too!

Just a quick thought — I really like the name Savvy Eats.. but since your url is savvyeat.com (no S) — I always get confused when I want to come directly to your site instead of having it pop up automatically in my reader or using the next button. Not sure if anyone has mentioned that to you before — so if you went with savvyliving it may not have that confusion
I like all the option as well but voted for the last option as well!

Yes, that is something that has always bugged me about my URL! So that’s a good point, savvyliving would save that confusion…
I think if you think it’s something you might want to continue for awhile it would be cool to rebrand. Your current name is limiting, but savvy living could include absolutely anything!

Hmm…that’s a good point. Do you think it is too broad though, that I’d lose readers for not being focused on one topic (like healthy living)?
I know people in social media say you’re blog should be about one topic, but I disagree. I prefer finding one person who can tell me about lots of things. I know you will organized with clear tabs and titles for each topic, so it will be perfect!
Also, I think it’s totally to keep your name and write about your house. I write about everything and anything!

i just voted! i really like the idea of rebranding to savvy living. that seems like the best move for the long term if you want to split your focus to both food & “living” or home, etc. i think you should definitely keep it all together somehow though – not have two separate blogs.

LOVE the Savvy Living idea!!

(Oh and even if you don’t do all that, then I’d vote for option #1!)

Rebrand but keep your existing url so that you don’t lose your PR3 and your existing back links.
And as one commenter said use separate RSS feeds for the different content.

I don’t think you can go wrong – but I really like the idea of Savvy Living. That would entail an entire branding makeover, but it might be fun!
