Ha, I think we bought Dan's brother that book for a gift once! But now I want to read it.

You, leave a novel-length comment? Never. ;)

remember the other day when i told you "no more google reader for the remainder of the week on the desktop computer?"

well, since i am trying hard to keep to that, instead i have been rereading past blogs from a few favs.

this could be cheating.
but im not going to go ahead and admit that.

i have a cookbook that is full of "easy technique" stuff that i just love and still reference all the time. It's called "How to Boil Water: Life Beyond Takeout." http://www.amazon.com/Boil-Water-Food-Network-Kitchens/dp/0696226863

Its probably the best investment ive ever made for my kitchen, honestly.
true story: I used to (and occasionally still do) reference my DICTIONARY when cooking.
I learned how to "mince" by looking up the definition in good ole Webster.
And I also looked up some herbs to figure out what part of the plant to use while seasoning with fresh stuff, one time.

[clearly, this was YEARS AGO before i started a) making healthy decisions b) reading food blogs other than cupcake project]

The book is AWESOME. it has recipes, of course, but it also teaches you the best ways to cut/prepare produce, what to look for when shopping for inseason produce and how to achieve the perect texture for certain foods. Last weekend I referenced the book to remind myself the best way to hardboil eggs to avoid green yolk, and not too long before that I looked up roasting time suggsetions for various vegetables.

It's simple, and sometimes I just NEED simple, you know?

That cookbook looks like exactly what I need! I'm horrible when it comes to "making up" recipes, but this book seems like it would be a really good teaching tool when it comes to that :)
