While I’m on my honeymoon in Italy, I have lined up some great guest posts for you.  For the next week and a half, I will be posting 1 or 2 “Savvy Spotlights” a day, highlighting some of my readers and blog friends.  You may see another fun post or two mixed in there as well. :)

I’ll start recapping our Italy trip when I return.  Have a great week!

Q. Introduce yourself!

Hi! I’m Katie from Healthy Heddleston (www.katieheddleston.com) and am excited to be involved in Julie’s Savvy Spotlight — thanks Julie! Here are a few fun facts about me for you to get to know me better!

  • I’m a Registered Dietitian from Northeastern Ohio
  • I’ve been married a year to my wonderful husband, John — aka Mr. Healthy on my blog
  • I’ve recently become “a runner”
  • I live a gluten free lifestyle
  • I’m a nanny — Maternal/Child Health is also my nutrition specialty
  • I can touch my tongue to my nose
  • And I love chocolate!

Q. Savvy Eats approaches the concept of healthy living from the standpoint of “Smart Food, Smart Fitness, & Smart Life.”  What does ‘savvy living’ mean to you?

‘Savvy Living’ encompasses many things in my life + my household. I completely agree with Julie’s concept of “Smart Food, Smart Fitness + Smart Life” — but where people differ the most is probably in the “Smart Life” category. So, ‘Savvy Living’ to me includes eating well, exercising regular, + making smart life choices. What are these choices? For me they are: eating gluten free / creating gluten free recipes; striving to better myself spiritually / emotionally in additional to physically; forgiving myself when my smart food + smart fitness goals don’t meet my standards; + constant improvement for something greater than myself.

Smart Food Q. What is your go-to meal?

My go-to meal would have to be quesadillas with a side salad. Soo simple, suitable for lunch, + perfect for a lazy dinner. Quesadillas can have so much variation to them so they never get boring! Another go-to (part of a meal) is having fresh fruit ready + available to eat. I like to have fruit salads on hand at all times!

Smart Fitness Q. There are a lot of ways to stay fit: running, cycling, yoga, Zumba, strength training, and more.  Which is your favorite, and what tip would you give a beginner?

Growing up I was always a team sports kinda girl. Volleyball was my passion + I was on the swimming + dance teams. Having people play the sport with you provided motivation + made things more fun. However, as I am transitioning to a “grown up”, there aren’t always enough people around to throw together a team! I’ve taken up a new passion — running. I’m currently training for my first half marathon + have loved every second of it so far!

Smart Life Q. How did you discover the healthy living blogging community?

While I knew the healthy living blog community was out there, I first was involved with websites + blogs related to weddings / wedding planning. I frequented The Knot and WeddingBook while I was engaged + soon began to find ladies with personal healthy living blogs. Then, when my search for a full-time dietitian job became difficult, I started my own blog in order to keep active with the nutrition / food / fitness world! I am now so blessed to be a part of this supportive community + can’t wait to see where my blog takes me!

Q. Anything else you’d like to share about yourself, your blog, etc?

I learning about new blogs + new readers. Please feel free to drop me a line anytime:HealthyHeddleston@gmail.com.  I hope you are having a great time Julie + Dan — can’t wait for your trip updates on the blog!
