If you follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed that I spent Thursday through Saturday in New York City. Since Josh flew out of La Guardia on Saturday afternoon, we decided to take a few days to explore the city.
Word to the wise: The week between Christmas and New Year’s is not the best time to visit New York City for the first time. Tourists are EVERYWHERE!
The three of us rented two rooms in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood from airbnb.com. The site matches up travelers with locals who have space to spare. If you have never checked this site out, do it now!
Josh was a history of science major, so our first stop was the Museum of Natural History.
On our way back to our apartment, we stopped at Rockefeller Center. Another mistake. So. Many. People.
But what made it all worth it? Stumbling onto Magnolia Bakery. The cupcakes definitely lived up to all the hype!

On Friday, we started the day at Chelsea Market. Can I live here? In the market somewhere?
We had brunch at 202, where I ate the BEST pancakes I’ve ever had.
All the paper and cardboard decorations made me think of a certain tree decked out in paper.
A broken CD tree.
LOVED the Filling Station. I got some delicious Cinnamon Pear Vinegar and Rosemary Sea Salt. Can’t wait to start playing with them!
The boys were ready to leave Chelsea Market a lot earlier than I was. So while they walked to Central Park, I met up with Jacquie to finish exploring the market and visit Max Brenner’s!

Wait, maybe I’d rather live in Max Brenner’s? Tough choice between the chocolate-licious restaurant and funky, unique market…
We left the camera behind for the rest of the weekend. Highlights included:
- Saturday night dinner at ‘inoteca, where we ordered a bottle of wine from one of the vineyards we stayed at in Italy!!
- Bluegrass show at the Living Room on New Year’s Eve, with champagne toasts at midnight.
- Watching the Rose Bowl upon our return to Ithaca. Unfortunately, our beloved Badgers lost.
- A secret Sunday errand. Hopefully I’ll be able to share the results of said errand with you by the end of the week!
How was your weekend? How did you ring in 2011?

Oh I’m so jealous, I’ve heard all about Max Brenner’s but have never been.
Next year, between Christmas and NYE, come to DC. There is NOBODY here. I almost started talking to myself because it was so quiet.
Looks like a great trip! I’m insanely jealous of the eats.
Wow sounds like you’re had an awesome time in NYC! And I am totally with you – I’d live in Chelsea Market if I could! Love that place.

What a fun weekend! I am so in love with NYC so it’s always fun to read posts about it and see the photos. Billy and I love airbnb.com – great site. I had the best pancakes of my life at Bubby’s in Tribeca. Oh my goodness they were amazing!

Hope NYC lived up to the hype!! Chelsea Market is one of my favorite Manhattan treasures – I could live in there!
i’ve only been to nyc once, and i visited a friend who lived there and hates touristy things, so we pretty much went shopping. it was nice, but i think next time i go i’ll have to reference this post for some ideas! it looks like it was a great trip!
I love the Museum of Natural History!! Really, of all the museums in New York, I think that one is my favorite. Great for kids and adults and everyone in between

I’m sure this isn’t helpful to you, but I kind giggled a little bit when I read this. My sister was trying to convince me to go into the city with her and her friends last week and I vehemently opposed. So they went without me and she texted me the entire day saying it was nuts! They actually decided against going to a show and left earlier in the day than they had planned.
