I suppose this would be the post that garnered me my first negative comment, even if it was ridiculous and isfunny to look back on.

I think all of my Brain Food 101 posts are helpful, but I am particularly fond of the ones on keeping your hot chocolate hot and the best way to store muffins.

Surprise Success:

The amount of support I received after my Little Things: Doctors Who Listen post was overwhelming.  Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and love whenever I write about my struggles to find out what is making me ill.

Not Enough Attention:

My science of canning post is one that I always think should have gotten more comments, especially considering how many canning recipes I post!  It answers all your questions on how to be sure you’re doing it safely.

Most Proud:

    1) I totally agree that your 101 posts are the most helpful, but I think I’ve told you that basically on every single post! lol
    2) I wonder if something like “the science of canning” gets a lot of bookmarks, as opposed to comments. I have some posts that no one has ever commented on, but they get tons of hits from Google, etc! I always wonder if it’s just that people who see it aren’t commenting types, or what!
    3) I wasn’t hip to your blog to have caught that controversial comment, but WOW what an asshole. Figured it was still worth saying. ;)

Here’s to even more awesome Savvy Julie posts in the future!

Hey Julie! I’m somewhat of a lurker and feel sheepish that my first comment is about your health issues! I just wanted to let you know that I can totally commiserate. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in November last year and have been hypo, hyper and just all over. It is a crazy emotional and physical roller coaster. Before that, I always felt there was something up with my thyroid but few doctors actually listened. Sadly, it took cancer to make me realize I a) needed to find doctor’s who listened and b) I am my own best advocate. Have you ever looked for a naturopath? They’re not covered by insurance so they’re expensive, but it’s interesting to work with someone who advocates a healthy lifestyle in addition to “medicine.”

Hang in there, and I hope you get the answers you’re looking for soon!

Don’t feel sheepish; I LOVE when readers “delurk”!

I was seeing a DO when I lived in Wisconsin who was very into the more natural medications and making diet adjustments to help symptoms. I really liked her, but living across the country means I haven’t seen her in a year. I think it has been a good thing to have to find a new doctor (as annoying a process as it is) though, just to get a pair of “fresh eyes” looking at my medical history and symptoms!
