Smoky Curried Popcorn

Confession:

I have a popcorn problem. If you offer me popcorn as a snack, I will always accept.

Confession:

Dan makes fun of me whenever I suggest making some. “I’m shocked that you’d want popcorn,” he says.

Confession:

While I usually pop some in just a little canola oil and sprinkle with a bit of salt or Garlic Gold, sometimes I want something more adventurous.

Truth:

Grated cheese does not stick well to popcorn unless you add lots of butter. Which kind of defeats the “healthy snack” aspect.

Truth:

Making your own popcorn seasoning is SO fun. And cheap.

Confession:

Friends and family, many of you may be getting popcorn seasoning, packaged with some kernels, as birthday, holiday or host(ess) gifts.

Because seriously, savory healthy snacks don’t get much more delicious than this.

Smoky Curried Popcorn

Makes about 1/4 cup

1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 tablespoon curry powder
2 tablespoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Mix all ingredients together and store in a jar. Sprinkle over fresh popcorn for a smoky, savory treat.

I make a savory popcorn seasoned almost exactly the same way. I showed my husband, the popcorn lover, and he’s never turned back. So good :)

Do I sense a Savvy Popcorn Seasoning in a cute jar on store shelves in our future? ;) Sounds like it makes for a great snack!

Do you have any good tips for making cinnamon sugar popcorn? Any other popcorn flavors?

That looks awesome, I love popcorn too! I always use a small spray of pam butter to make parmesan stick to my popcorn ;) but this still looks healthier!

I have the same Popcorn problem – and I’m proud to admit it! Kettlecorn is my favorite but I’ve been craving savory popcorn lately.

Ohhh! I am so glad that someone else likes spices on their popcorn! When ever I put something besides salt on the popcorn my family looks at me like I am nuts!
My current favorite is Garlic salt and Cumin! Sooo tasty!
Thanks for sharing!

Just found your blog and this recipe. What a great spice combo idea! I’ve recently been making a lot of sweet popcorn toppings, now I want to try this savory one!
