Strawberry Vodka Limeade

Strawberry Vodka title

Twenty-five pounds of strawberries have gone through my kitchen in the past two weeks.  We ate some fresh, in strawberry mint salad, in pancakes, in sorbet.  We preserved even more, slicing and freezing, macerating and jamming.  And then we drank some, via strawberry-infused vodka.

Strawberry Vodka

Yield: 1 quart

Strawberry Vodka

Strawberry-infused vodka adds a fruity twist to your cocktails. For strawberry vodka limeade, shake 1 part strawberry vodka with 4 or 5 parts limeade. Serve with a few frozen strawberries in each glass-- it will keep your cocktail cold without diluting it like regular ice would.

Ingredients

  • 1 pint strawberries
  • About 4 cups vodka

Instructions

  1. Wash and hull the strawberries and place them in a quart-sized Mason jar.
  2. Pour the vodka over the strawberries, filling to about 1/2 - 1" from the top of the jar.
  3. Cover and shake the jar then set it in a cool, dark spot in your kitchen.
  4. Allow to infuse for 5-7 days, shaking the jar once a day. By the end, the strawberries will be ghosts of their former selves, faded and nearly white. Strain through a piece of cheesecloth and discard the strawberries.

Make Ahead and Storage

Store the vodka in its Mason jar in the freezer to retain the strawberry flavor. Frozen, the vodka will be good for up to 6 months. Shake the jar before pouring the vodka.

What to do with all those strawberries?

Eat them fresh:

Or, preserve them to enjoy in the depths of winter:
