The Little Things #14

If you are a new reader (hi, new readers!), you may not know about my Little Things series. So often, we get caught up in our day to day routines and forget to appreciate the little things in life.  In these posts, I like to honor the details that are making me happy today, and ask you to do the same!

The Little Things making me happy today are:

1. My big batch of pumpkin risotto provided us with 3 dinners and 1 lunch for me. So delicious, even reheated, and saved me some time in the kitchen, which was very hot this week!

2. Our autumn-like weather is expected to return this weekend. Fall is my absolute favorite season!

3. Healthy Living Blogs has been growing so quickly…much more than we ever expected it to. In the first 2 1/2 weeks, we have added over 1000 blogs already. (And if you aren’t one of those blogs, go add yourself now!)

4. My legs have been getting so strong from all my cycling. Woot!

5. As of yesterday, I have been married for 3 months.

6. My mom sent me a small box of things I couldn’t fit in my suitcase after HLS and my Minnesota visit, and my sister was so sweet to add a wine journal as a honeymoon gift. Thanks, Risa!

7. We got a new printer this weekend, so now we don’t have to make 5 or 6 attempts, complete with paper jams, to print a single document anymore.

8. Dan’s coworker sent him home with a HUGE bag of sweet corn. I’m so excited to grill some on the cob, and freeze the rest for corn chowder this winter. Details on how to do that coming soon. ;)

Little things that are making me happy today:

    1. my crazy hectic schedule forcing me to be productive. I feel like i’v finally gotten rid of the laziness bug.

    2. i get to see you in 4 SLEEPS! FOUR SLEEPS! can you believe it?

    3. Also – BADGER OPENER – four sleeps away. Saturday may just be the best day ever.

    4. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my latest CD purchase, Justin Friello’s Ghosts in Command. It is SO GOOD.

    5. did i mention that Justin gave me an autographed balloon the other day? It’s true.

    6. Six makes me happy. it’s my favorite number. did you know that? 6 followed by 8, and therefore, followed by 68. i’ve never really had much of a thing for 86, though. dont really know why.

in other news – you have been married 3 months. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?

I finally found my boxes with books yesterday which includes my cookbooks! New recipe tonight! That makes me very happy.

Cycling does make you strong doesn’t it? You have been doing more cycling than me lately!

      Yay!

But in all fairness, I’ve had my bike, while your’s has been in a shipping box. And broken. :( It is fixed now, right?

I pick it up Wednesday. It needed a lot of work! The movers packed it so that the brake cables stretched out, broke the chain: needed to replace those. Also, my poor bike needed a good tune-up. I loved living in Germany, but after 2 1/2 years of that my bike needed some love! I feel like the shop that I took it to on base while I lived there didn’t do a good job with my bike at all! I’m planning my reunion with it on Thursday. ;)

    1. Sending real mail to good friends. All bills and junk are no fun but a cute puppy card is great.

    2. Meeting new people…Scares the ever living everything out of me but makes me a better person so I’m excited for this weekend.

    3. Babies! Not mine, yet. But my friend who is VERY pregnant’s baby shower is Sunday afternoon and I have to sew my fingers off to make a quilt and I couldn’t be more happier.

    4. Simple joys like my dog sneezing in my face this morning. It’s his way of showing me he loves me and i missed it all weekend while at a work event.

    5. vacation is just 2 weeks. I can’t wait to take a break and relax. Now to make it those two weeks :-)

Reminding yourself of the little things is so important – there is always something to be happy about! For me, it’s going to visit one of my best friends in Chicago on Friday. LOVE girl time! :)

Im a new reader!! :) And I love this idea! Posts like this always brighten my day.
Whats making me happy today is the rain. Well, not so much the actual RAIN, but the crazy wet dog antics that come with the rain. I think its hilarious.

Ah – so cool that it has been 3 months for you already! Time is feeling by, huh? One little thing that made me happy today was snacking on some “cheese” (aka Cheez-its, haha) and wine when I got home from work :) .

Congrats on being married for three months! I feel like you were just talking about wedding plans! I am happy about squeezing every possible ounce of summer out before Fall sets in!

Pretzel m&m’s are the little thing making me happy as I type this. :)

I also love finding things that I had completely forgotten about. It might be a bag of chocolate chips in the cabinet, or a shirt I bought last year. That one second where you make that discovery… :)

    I love this series!
Little things that are making me happy today are:
    1) My mom reminding me to take pics mid recipe for the blog.
    2) The fact that I am now on day 2 of my senior year in college
    3) That I just took a motrin so no more cramps!

  16. September 1, 2010 at 11:18 am #

I call them my Happy Bits and today they include:
    1) A triple whammy on Pandora – three great songs in a row by John Mayer, Jack Johnson, and Jason Mraz.
    2) The first Fall leaf in my backyard was spotted this morning :-)
    3) A dozen wee little birds on the bird feeder outside my office window.

What a wonderful post, Julie! I’m a huge believer in “little” things.

    My list:

    1) Well, this is hardly little, but I’ll be traveling with my best friend this weekend :)
    2) I broke out my “fall jackets” last week — I love the onslaught of cool weather.
    3) I had a perfect Gala apple this morning for a snack.
    4) I saw MANHATTAN in the park last weekend.
    5) I got a new spiralizer. Yay.

Are you not experiencing the major heat wave we have up in Ithaca? It is supposed to cool down to fall temperatures by Saturday, and I can’t wait–I love fall!

Where are you traveling? How fun!

We totally are this week, but weren’t at the start of last week.
