Wedding!
As you probably know if you read my blog, I am getting married on May 30, 2010.
I do have a blog about my wedding, which I update whenever we make new decisions/need input on the wedding: Modern Bride with a Budget
We also have a website specific to our wedding: Dan and Julie’s Wedding, where you can read about our engagement story, wedding party, etc.
Our Wedding Philosophy
Several aspects of our wedding are not going to be “traditional.” We like it this way. We want the wedding to reflect us and our relationship.
The “wedding industry” often says that you should spend x% of your budget on invitations, y% on the flowers, etc.
Dan and I don’t.
We have a relatively “small” wedding budget. It really isn’t small, but when compared to the average cost of a wedding today (almost $30,000!!), it isn’t large.
So we aren’t spending hundreds of dollars on flowers that will wilt, or invitations that most people won’t keep.
We are spending money on our location and the food, because this is what people will remember. (And as a foodie, I can’t have sub-par food at my own wedding!) We are spending money on the things that are important to us.
I am not judging people who do want a more traditional wedding, or who do pay for pricey invitations, flowers, etc. It just isn’t my own, personal style.
Our Wedding Plans
So what decisions have we made on the wedding?
My dress, from Priscilla of Boston. Since Dan reads this blog, all I’m going to say is that it is ivory, knee-length, and has a sweetheart neckline. And that it is totally “me.” Seriously, this is my dream dress. Because of that, this is one area of our budget in which I splurged. I recently received a call that my dress is in, so I’m trying it on over Thanksgiving weekend…. yay!
Bridesmaids dresses have been selected and ordered.
Our officiant is our friend, Cordelia, who will be getting ordained in order to conduct our ceremony.
Our location is the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. Both the ceremony and reception will be held in the sculpture garden on the roof. Unless it rains, in which case it will be in the gorgeous lobby.
Our photographer is Courtney of Blue Dandelion Photography. We are in love with our engagement pics, so I’m excited to see our wedding pictures, too!
My jewelry will be my cousin’s wedding jewelry, which is handmade. And perfect for my dress!
Our Save-the-Dates are almost done!
