After months of tweaking my thyroid medicine and attempting multiple exercise and eating regimens, I’m finally starting to see a real difference in the way my clothes fit and the way I feel. I still don’t feel well, but at least the fitness is a sign of progress.
I’ve got a fitness routine down now: Pilates 3-4x a week and walking at least 16 miles a week (the walk to and from each Pilates class is 4 miles roundtrip!). When I feel well, I add in some cycling on the trainer or some Barre classes. I haven’t outright changed what I’m eating, just the amount of it: smaller meals with more protein and vegetables. The one piece I’m lacking? Eating enough fruit, especially in the earlier parts of the day. I want to incorporate some of that fruit I froze over the summer, but I’ve been in a complete rut with breakfast, and am getting tired of my typical “oats with defrosted frozen berries” routine.
So I ordered a blender from Amazon, and plan to start my mornings with smoothie throughout the holiday season. Here are nine recipes that are particularly calling to me:
Blood Orange Smoothie from Edible Perspective.
Breakfast Smoothies from Martha Stewart.
Chai Tea Smoothie from Cupcakes and Kale. Of course I love this one.
Cherry Almond Smoothie from Edible Perspective.
Cherry-Berry Smoothies from Better Homes and Gardens.
Citrus Berry Smoothie from Eating Well. I love the wheat germ addition.
Coconut, Strawberry and Banana Smoothie from Bon Appetit. Perhaps with coconut milk instead of cream of coconut.
Green Tea-Fruit Smoothie from Eating Well. Yes to adding tea to my smoothies!
Tropical Raspberry Lime Zinger from Oh She Glows.
Have any suggestions for great smoothie recipes, especially ones that use frozen berries (I have a lot of those in my chest freezer)?
